The Meisner Acting Intensive
2 Weeks Acting Workshop
The Meisner Acting Intensive is a two week series of specialized Meisner workshops by The Jakarta Players in partnership with Sightlines Actors' Space. This workshops series is designed to introduce and demonstrate the methodologies & applications of the Meisner Technique. This approach to actor training is one of the longest-standing pillars of modern acting and is taught around the world in many major schools and universities.

There will be three workshops offered:
- Foundations of the Meisner Technique (5 Days)
Aims to instill the foundational skills that actors need to follow their instincts:
> Really doing
> Working off the other person
> Allowing yourself to be affected fully
> Following your impulse
> Invent specifically and meaningfully to find a strong point of view
> Emotional Preparation
The skills are developed through the following Meisner exercises: Repetition and Doors & Activities. - Intro to Integrating Meisner & Alexander (1 Day)
Introduces basic concepts of the Alexander technique and how it can be applied to the actors' speaking skills. - Application to Scenes (6 Days)
Aims to apply the foundational skills to scenes. The actors will learn the different Meisner tools for scene work: First Reading, Improvisation, and Lou Gehrig Exercise.
The actors will be tasked to explore dialogue and monologue scenes. Through exploration, actors will experience what it’s like to equip themselves with tools that allow them to learn how to be responsible for the development of characters in the scenes they encounter.
Workshop Guidelines:
- These workshops are for students 18 years old and above
- Each class is IN-PERSON
- The maximum number of students per workshop is 16 to ensure the quality of the training that each student receives

Who are the instructors?
Alecx Lorica is a Designated Meisner Teacher and the founder of Sightlines Actors’ Space. She launched Sightlines in hopes of building a community for actors to create and collaborate. She is an actress and singer based in the Philippines, who discovered her passion for teaching acting during her time at Ateneo de Manila University, where she graduated with a double degree in BFA Theater Arts and AB Communication.
Alecx completed her Designated Meisner Teacher training under Scott Trost, Executive Director of the Meisner Institute., L.A., USA. The Meisner Institute is supported and endorsed by James Carville, executor of the Sanford Meisner estate. Since completing her Meisner Teacher training, she has launched Sightlines Actors’ Space. Over the course of June 2021 to today, she has taught over 250 students from all over the world (Philippines, USA, Indonesia, Thailand, Singapore).

Dan Ansaldo is a Designated Meisner Teacher — Performer — Educator — Artist Mental Health Coordinator with 30+ years experience in musical theater, opera, arts pedagogy (voice, acting, dance) and artist mental health.
1997—in a Thursday night community singing class, Dan embarked on a journey of faith. Five months later, in a dark New York theater, Dan debuted as Anthony Hope in Sweeney Todd. His roster of musical and operatic roles performed at venues worldwide range from Claude Frollo (Hunchback: A New Musical), Jean Valjean (Les Mis), The Engineer (Ms. Saigon)— to Alfredo (La Traviata), Rudolfo (La Boheme), Cavaradossi (Tosca)— to name a few.
Dan’s pedagogic lineage traces from robust pedigree: Marianne Cornetti, Eduardo Valdez, Dr. Glenn Koponen, Dr. Paul J. Liljestrand, Shelley & Joel Jameson, Grammy winner Esther B. Hinds, Dr. Stanley L. Ralph (father of Emmy winner Sheryl Lee Ralph), Emma Drilon & her sister, Evelyn Mandac, Angeli Bayani, Jillian Paige, Alecx Lorica and Scott T. Trost.
